Georgian chess players Baadur Jobava (2702), Merab Gagunashvili (2592), Tornike Sanikidze (2549) and Davit Lomsadze (2370) competed unsuccessfully in the 14th European Individual Championship which ended up in the city of Poland, Legnica.
Jobava, leader of the Georgian team, was No.9 seed at the tournament but he earned 6.0 points in 11 rounds. He took the 101st place among 286 participants.
Merab Gagunashvili earned the most 6.5 points from the Georgians. He took the 54th place. Tornike Sanikidze took the 139th place with 5.5 points. Lomsadze took the 247th place with 4.0 points.

Prize money of the tournament was 100 000 EUR and the winner gained 14 000 EUR. The best 23 chess players will compete in World Cup.
Besides the main tournament, the chess players participated in blitz where the Georgians showed better results. Jobava took the 3rd place with 10.0 points and Sanikidze – the 13th place with 8.0 points.
