Varlam Liparteliani: "Let Them Lie and Write What They Want"

Varlam Liparteliani, member of the Georgian judo team, made a comment in response to the accusations of Kirill Denisov, managers of the Russian team and entire Russian sports publications.

In the third final fight of the team championship Liparteliani defeated Denisov by shido and minimized difference. The Russians stated that the Georgian judoka bit Denisov on the leg. Kirill Denisov and head coach of the Russian national team talked about this violation. They mentioned that after this fight Liparteliani came up to them and apologized for poor sporting behavior.

“That episode happened when referee stopped the fight. Denisov tried to hurt my hand. I know this judoka very well. I wrestled against him for the third time. At European Championship he hurt my hand so much that it hurt for two months. So, before he starts talking about poor sporting behavior, let him remember his own sins.

- Denisov and the coaching staff of the Russian national team stated that after the fight you came up to them and apologized for biting.

- First of all I will tell you that I did not bit him. It is nonsense that I apologized to them. I came up to Denisov and comforted him. It is normal. I told him it would be better if he does not wrestle rudely in future.

- In Russian press you are compared to Mike Tyson who bit off Holyfield’s ear…

- Head referee director Juan Carlos Barcos watched the video and saw that we are right. Let the Russian publications lie and write what they want. The most important is that we won gold medals at World Championship.
