Ushangi Kurashvili, president of Georgian Wrestling Federation, resigned. After one week, the federation will hold a meeting at Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs and a new president will be appointed. There were some rumors that Kurashvili made this decision because of misunderstanding at the federation. Though, he has not made official statement yet. "World Sport" contacted him to find out the truth.
- We found out that you are going to resign...
- You can write that I have already resigned. I told it to members of executive committee of the federation.
- Why did you make such decision?
- Because of several reasons. First, it is really hard work. I have not stopped during 2 years. Georgian wrestling revived. To tell the truth, this hard regime made me think about it. I could not pay attention to business and domestic situation made influence on the final decision.
- People say that you could not unite the federation as the one team and that's why you are leaving...
- I have found common language with everyone. Of course, there were some misunderstandings but entirely, positive was more than negative. If there had been absolute unanimity, we might not have worked so productively. Different opinion gave me more stimulus.
- Was lengthening arms of wrestling costumes one of the reasons of misunderstandings?
- This decision caused disputes but this change is not confirmed yet. It is a 2-year experiment and after that "Wrestling Family" will decide what to do. I think, it is a right step. When wrestling costumes did not have arms, there were more injuries and many sportsmen refused to participate in tournaments because of that. After this change, everyone saw that Georgian wrestling team competed in Georgian wrestling with the whole staff. In my opinion, wrestling became more beautiful.
- Perhaps, you know who will continue your activities...
- I do not know number of candidates exactly. Perhaps, their number may increase and decrease. As I know, there is one of the main candidates. I will be happy if he is appointed on this position.
- Can you name him?
- It will be better if I do not name him now because there is a long time before the elections.
- What are you going to do? Will you leave sport?
- I know one thing exactly - I cannot be without wrestling. So, I will always support this sport. I do not know what I will do. Perhaps, I will go into politics but not in opposition. I want to thank everyone who supported us - Olympic Committee, Ministry of Sport and Tbilisi City Hall which financed many important projects. I want to thank especially to governor of Mtskheta-Mtianeti region Tsezar Chocheli. According to his initiative, Georgian Wrestling Club Championship will be held in 2011 and 8 teams will participate in it.
"World Sport" found out that Temur Giorgadze, veteran wrestler and head of Municipal Department of Emergency Situations of Tbilisi City Hall, is one of the main candidates to become president of Georgian Wrestling Federation.
