What Is Going On?

The main news of the 14th round is probably the trouble round “Guria” Lanchkhuti. “Guria” is a strange club. After 11-year pause the club is back to Supreme League. Before the start of the season, almost all players left the club and it was considered as the main outsider. But everything happened other way. The fans saw a fighter team which holds home matches in Kobuleti. “Guria” won all home matches in the first circle. Rumor has it the football players did not receive salaries on time. The club tried to find a sponsor but in vain. “Guria” is a municipal team and the municipality must finance it. However, there is some misunderstanding. According to the press service of the club, they asked for 1,7 million GEL from the 2014 budget. Lanchkhuti City Council states their income is only 1,2 million and how they can pay 1,7 million.

Today Georgian Football Players’ Association sent letter to Koba Mirzashvili, director of “Guria”, and Georgian Football Federation. According to the letter, if the Lanchkhuti football players do not receive salaries in two days, they will go on strike and will not participate in the matches.

This letter is terrifying. If the football players do not receive salaries and do not play, what will happen next? The Football Federation will fine the club with 5 000 GEL and then, will be dismissed from the championship. And who will win? Perhaps, everybody will lose. The championship will lose a good team and the football players – job.

“Guria” was not going to play “Sioni” but they did it and then stated: they did it because of their respect toward the fans and priest Saba.

In short, everything is messed up. It is a sad reality and it does not concern only “Guria”. “Zestafoni” is a private club but Ilia Kokaia is going to own it till New Year.

“Zestafoni” won twice in a row under the guidance of Gia Geguchadze.

“Torpedo” lost five matches in a row. The club has young football players and its problem is obvious.
