The President Visits "Shevardeni" Rugby Academy

 

Mikheil Saakashvili the president of Georgia gave a visit to “Shevardeni” Rugby Academy. Lado Vardzelashvili a minister of Sport and Youth Affaires and leadership of Rugby Union were with the president.  
The president congratulated U-19 Rugby National Team winning of European Championship and for devoted playing he thanked them.
“To my mind we broke world record in this sport because had only one gym and our team became world class one. I attended Rugby Championship in France and it can be said that Georgian legionaries have their own fan club there.  I want to say a lot of thanks for such devoted playing and for dedication your victory to memory those guys who dead in 2008 year. Georgia appraises it.

We start to build rugby gyms in Poti, Batumi, Rustavi, Kutaisi, Telavi and Gori. In 2012 we will have 19 gyms with serious infrastructure. Children will be interested in this sport and sport lessons at school will be replaced by this sport”- stated the president.  
In help with government 12 standard rugby gyms will be built in Tbilisi as well as in Poti, Rustavi, Gori, Telavi, Senaki, Kutaisi, Batumi and Martkopi. 2012 will be realized rugby infrastructure project in whole Georgia.
There are seats for 1700 spectators in “Shevardeni” rugby complex which was built by building company “Kartu Group”. This complex is well-equipped and it is euro standard complex.  
“Shevardeni” Rugby Academy was officially opened on November 18, at the end of the year will be finished building of “Sinatle” training-playing base.
Minister of Sport and Youth Affaires talked and leadership of Rugby Union with the president about holding Rugby Championship in some age category and the president promised help in it.
