Tatishvili Tries to Defend Points in Budapest

 

Anna Tatishvili lost 23 positions on WTA ranking and is beyond Top 100. Anna has 649 points and is in the 101st place.

Sofia Shapatava has 260 points and is in the 216th place. She advanced with 20 positions.

Last week Tatishvili and Shapatava won the Versmold doubles tournament. Anna is in the 126th place in doubles ranking and Sofia – in the 248th place. Oksana Kalashnikova has the best ranking from the Georgians. She is in the 62nd place with 1440 points.

Tatishvili is in Hungary and will play in the main draw of Budapest Grand Prix (235 000 USD).

Last year this tournament was held in April-May and was one of the best in the career of the Georgian tennis player. Anna defeated No.3 seed Tsvetana Pironkova of Bulgaria 1:6, 6:3, 6:1, Vanda Lukacs of Hungary 6:1, 6:2 and Aleksandra Wozniak of Canada 5:7, 7:6 (7:4), 6:4. In semifinal Tatishvili lost to Sara Errani of Italy 2:6, 1:6. Anna earned 130 ranking points.

In doubles draw Tatishvili and Katalin Marosi of Hungary made through to semifinal where they lost to the Slovak duet 6:7 (3:7), 6:2, 6:10. The Georgian earned 130 points again.

This year Tatishvili is No.8 seed and will face Reka-Luca Jani of Hungary. The Hungarian who often plays at the Tbilisi tournaments has “wild card” at the Hungarian tournament. Jani is in the 312th place on WTA ranking. In case of victory, Anna will play either Shahar Pe’er of Israel or Xenia Knoll of Switzerland.

There are only 8 duets in doubles draw. So, the tournament starts from ¼ final. Tatishvili and Nina  Bratchikova of Russia will face the Hungarian pair.

Another WTA tournament (235 000 USD) is underway in Palermo. Maka Chakhnashvili participated in it. In the first round of the qualifying draw the Georgian lost to Teodora Mircic of Serbia 0:6, 5:7.

Sofia Shapatava is in Biarritz and is playing at Open GDF Suez de Biarritz (100 000 USD). In the first round of the main draw the Georgian tennis player faced Laura Thorpe of France and beat her 2:6, 1:6. In doubles draw Sofia and Aleksandrina Naydenova of Bulgaria will play No.4 seed Ukrainian duet.

Oksana Kalashnikova is participating in the Istanbul tournament (Turkey, 25 000 USD). She won over Ipek Soylu of Turkey 6:4, 6:3. In 1/8 final Oksana will face either Zlochova of Slovakia or Bowtell of Ireland.

Giorgi Tsivadze overcame the qualifying draw of the Istanbul tournament (10 000 USD). He defeated Sinan Tuna of Turkey 6:2, 6:2, Alexandre David of France 6:1, 6:4. Mikheil Khmiadashvili lost to Damian Farinola of Australia 6:7 (8:10), 6:2, 3:6. Aleksandre Metreveli will play in the main draw.

Ekaterine Gorgodze who is in the 618th place returned to court. Gorgodze is in Germany and tries to go through the main draw of the Aschaffenburg tournament (25 000 USD).

Ekaterine is No.10 seed in the qualifying draw. She defeated Tayisiya Morderger of Germany 6:3, 6:4. In the decisive match the Georgian girl will face another German Laura Schaeder.

Nikoloz Basilashvili is in the 295th place with 152 points on ATP ranking. The Georgian tennis player lost to Marton Fucsovics of Hungary 1:6, 5:7 in the main draw of the Istanbul tournament (42 500 USD). In doubles draw of PTT Cup Istanbul Basilashvili and Tuna Altuna of Turkey will play Teimuraz Gabashvili of Russia and David Goffin of Belgium.
