Youth Water-Polo Players Successfully Overcame "Death Group"

 

Georgian national water-polo youth team finished today’s match against Holland, finished in favor of the host team 10:9. Generally, Georgian national team finished group B of European championship very successfully, with three victories from four matches and with one draw, in total it gained 10 points and took the first place.

In today’s match Andria Bitadze was the most successful, with three goals.

At the qualifying round there were five competitors: Georgia, Germany, Slovakia, Holland and Moldova. At the final stage, only two of them which gained the maximum points went through it. Georgian national youth team took the first place as a result of gaining 10 points, and leaves for Europe, as for Germany it has 8 points. Slovakia gained 5 points, Holland- 4 points and Moldova- 0 point and stayed beyond the tournament.

After ending the qualifying round, Georgian team goes for Serbia for getting ready for the final stage, which is held in Malta.

Davit Rurua( president of Georgian national water-polo federation):” winning European youth championship, especially going through the final stage is a very big success. Coaches are very glad, as well as guys, whole federation and Georgia.

Now starts preparing stage and the team leaves for Serbia. Water-polo is highly developed in Serbia and they will prepared there very well.

We will have a final match in Malta and we will try that there will be 8 teams. I would like also to add that I see that these guys are very prospective, especially four players, who are the candidates of the national team: Bitadze, Chakhaia, Chikvadze and Imnaishvili. It can be said that these players played a decisive role”.

Yohan Popovich (head coach of Georgian water-polo youth team):” Georgian national youth team has a fantastic team, which is staffed with prospective players. All this is the result of hard-working for years. A very strong generation is coming and the result proves it. Soon these young players will fill the national team. I would like to thank to federation and all these people who supported us during this time and for reaching this goal. Before European championship a lot of time is left  for succeeding there too”.

Giorgi Gabadadze (captain of the youth team):” It was a very difficult team, which contained 5 teams. We took the first place, as a result we went through the final stage. Holland, Slovakia, Germany- are high level teams, and beating them will not be very easy. In final we will do our best for coming back with prize plac”.

Andria Bitadze(member of the youth team):” we overcame very difficult group, which is called ”death group” in Europe. For three years we have been working hard and we achieved our goal. It is our career peak. For whole Georgian water-polo it is very big success and we are very glad”.
