After the end of Euroleague Top-16, it is known that “Olympiacos” of Giorgi Shermadini will play in ¼ final but “Montepaschi” of Viktor Sanikidze said goodbye to the tournament.
The club of Shermadini hosted Russian “Khimki” and beat it 79:70. Unfortunately, the Georgian center was a substitute and did not participate in the game.
Papanikolaou led “Olympiacos” with 21 points and 12 rebounds. Traditionally, Spanoulis was very useful – 15 points, 5 assists.
“Olympiacos” took the second place with 9 wins and 5 losses in Group F. In ¼ final the club will play against Turkish “Efes”, the third-placed club of Group E.
“Montepaschi” lost a chance of going through ¼ final. The club started participation in Top-16 with 5 wins in a row but at the end the Italians lost 5 games in a row. “Montepaschi” took the 6th place in Group F.
In the last round the Italian club visited Spanish “Caja Laboral” and lost 64:76.
Sanikidze played for 19:01 minutes. He earned 7 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 block-shot. The Georgian forward scored both 2-point and 1 from 3 3-point. He had one turnover, received 1 personal foul and one foul was committed against him.
American Bobby Brown was the best from “Montepaschi”. He earned 24 points, 3 rebounds and 6 assists. Estonian Kristjan Kangur earned 1 point in 24 points. He left the arena after receiving 5 personal fouls.
The playoffs will start on April 9 and will last till three wins. Besides “Olympiacos” – “Efes”, other three pairs look like this: CSKA (Russia) – “Caja Laboral” (Spain), “Barcelona” (Spain) – “Panathinaikos” (Greece), “Real” (Spain) – “Maccabi” (Israel).
