Session will Decide the Sochi Issue

 

On May 2 Georgian National Olympic Committee will make a final decision about participation in Winter Olympic Games 2014. Today members of executive committee gathered at the office of GNOC and they discussed several important issues, including Sochi Olympic Games.

“May 7 is deadline of final answer. We will gather five days earlier – on May 2 special session of GNOC will be held and we will vote for competition in Olympic Games 2014. 59 delegates will compete participate in it”, - Stated Leri Khabelov, president of GNOC.

The first issue in the agenda was to evaluate European Youth Winter Olympic Festival which took place in Brasov (Romania) in February. Mamuka Khabareli, vice-president of Olympic Committee, made a report on the results of the Georgian sportsmen. He added they did not plan to win medals in winter sports.

In July the Georgian sports delegation will participate in European Youth Summer Olympic Festival which will take place in the city of Holland, Utrecht. According to Emzar Zenaishvili, general secretary of GNOC, the Georgian will participate in 6 from 9 sports. They expect good results from judokas. After Utrecht, Youth Summer Olympic Festival 2015 will be held in Tbilisi

Elguja Berishvili, the first vice-president of GNOC, talked about two issues. He informed the members of the executive committee that the Olympic Committee restored magazine “Olimpieli” which has not published since 2009. Paata Natsvlishvili will be editor-in-chief. The magazine will publish twice a year. The presentation of the first issue will be held on May 2.

According to Berishvili, on June 23 sports activities will be held, regarding International Olympic Day. Anyone can participate in it.

Finally, National Olympic Committee will discuss the request of Georgian Squash Federation about its recognition and most likely, the committee will support it. Squash is among the candidate sports of Olympic Games 2020.
