History of Georgian Judo Starts with Mzia

For the first time in the history of independent Georgian judo, judoka girl is a prize winner of European Championship. Mzia Beboshvili (48kg) won 4 from 5 fights at European Cadet Championship in Tallinn. The Georgian won bronze medal.

Beboshvili defeated Dzestina Kutkaite of Lithuania by ippon. Then, she won over Mina Libeer of Belgium and Kristina Shilova of Russia. In semifinal Beboshvili lost to Andreja Leski of Slovenia by waza-ari. In repechage final the Georgian beat Betina Temelkova of Bulgaria in 41 seconds.

Today Robizon Beglarishvili (50kg) wrestled on the Estonian tatami too. He took the third place. Robizon lost a gold-silver chance in ¼ final where he lost to Matthijs van Harten of Holland. Before that, the Georgian defeated Peter Bognar of Hungary and Manuel Lombardo of Italy by waza-aris. In “bronze semifinal” Beglarishvili beat Enes Celik of Turkey by yuko. In the decisive fight he won over Khazar Hasanov of Azerbaijan by ippon. Beglarishvili was born in 1998 and is a member of that team which will participate in 2015 European Youth Olympic Festival in Tbilisi.

Salome Margiani wrestled in 48kg, like Beboshvili. She took the 7th place. In repechage semifinal Salome lost to Betina Temelkova of Bulgaria. Margiani held three fights in the main draw. She defeated Jana Ziegler of Germany, Cicek Tatar of Turkey and Reka Pupp of Hungary.

Beka Natatralashvili (55kg), Zviad Khubuluri and Giorgi Katsiashvili (both 60kg) wrestled on the European tatami today. All of them lost before ¼ final.

Tomorrow champions and prize winners will be found out in three-three weight classes. The following judokas will wrestle in the name of Georgia: Simon Mamardashvili, Koba Mchedlishvili (both 66kg), Tamaz Kirakozashvili (73kg), Mariam Janashvili, Guranda Shotadze (both 52kg) and Khatia Janashvili (63kg).
