The Georgian freestyle wrestling team will leave for European Championship 2014 with the champions of Georgia. On December 7-8 the domestic competition was held in old weight categories. Three days ago FILA confirmed new weight categories but the coaching staff of the team is not going to change the decision. Revaz Mindorashvili, head coach of the team, informed “World Sport” with this information.
“The weight categories are changed with one or two kg. The only important news is in 70 kg. It is the 8th weight category of the upcoming European Championship. We have planned test fights which will be held on December 28. It will be a mini tournament where all candidates will participate” – stated Revaz Mindorashvili.
Prize winners of 66 kg and wrestlers without medals will participate in the competition for European Championship. Also, the wrestlers (74 kg), who will lose 4 kg.
We asked the head coach of the Georgian team about the new rules of FILA. According to Revaz Mindorashvili, it will not be tough to get used to the changes.
As for the preparation plan, the Georgian wrestlers will hold two-week meeting in Bakuriani on January 6. The team will depart for other two meetings from February to March. The Georgians will wrestle at three international tournaments.
According to the decision of FILA, champions and prize winners will be found out in 8 weight categories at European and World Championships: 57, 61, 65, 70, 74, 86, 97 and 125 kg. At the Olympics champions will be found out in 6 weight categories: 57, 65, 74, 86, 97 and 125 kg.
