Anna Tatishvili is only Georgian who continues competition in US Open qualifying wrap. She needs to pass final obstacle for going through the main tournament. 20-year-old Tatishvili is on the 149th place in rating of Women Tennis Association (WTA). In the first round she beat Serbian Irena Pavlovich ranked No.196, who represents France this time and beat in 1.22 minutes 6:2, 6:3. In the second round she had more difficulties.
Anna’s opponent was No.30 Anna-Lena Groenefeld of Germany. 25-year-old Groenefeld is on the 141th place in rating, but Groenefeld reached a career-high singles ranking of No. 14 in April 2006, had one of the best showings ever as a qualifier at the US Open. Match between them lasted for 2 hours and 8 minutes and finally, Tatishvili won 7:6( 7:5), 3:6, 7:5.
It is worth mentioning that Anna was losing in the first set 3:5, after losing 2 sets she managed to win the third set.
Tatishvili was delivering ball in 67% (70 from 104). In the second receive she won 47% of received balls (16 from 34). In the first rounds she beat Alexanda Mueller of the U.S.A (6:4, 6:1) and Sloane Stephens (6:3, 7:5).
Odraskova is on the 121 th place in rating, she reached a career-high when she became No. 74 top seed of the world on February 9 in 2004. Since 1998 she won 19 tournaments, but won only one in 2010.In Brnov Tournament(prize money 25 000 USD) in May-June she beat Kristina Kuchova of Slovenia in final match 6:3, 4:6, 6:2.
Georgian and Czech tennis players face each other first time. If rain does not change schedule of US Open again, Tatishvili and Odraskova compete in the 5th court at 23:00 Tbilisi time. The world leading bookmakers estimates chances equally (1.9-1.9).
Unfortunately, other Georgian tennis players are not as successful as Tatishvili in qualifying wrap.
