World Judo Championship in Brazil ended with the national anthem of Georgia. The Georgian team showed their strength to all. The team, coached by Irakli Uznadze held 3 matches on the way to the final and all won convincingly. But in the decisive, dramatic struggle they turned out the Russian’s almost lost game. Adam Okruashvili put the Gold point by tackling Alexander Mikhaylin, World’s and Europe champion.
16 teams participated in the competition. Unlike similar tournaments of the past, this time coaches banked the staff with the first numbers.
Georgia is clearly unlucky in the ranking. In the 1/8 final they had to confront one of the favorite France. in the first fight, Lasha Shavdatuashvili (66 kg) lost to David Larose in 5 minutes by yuko and waza-ari. And he was not able to perform the action.
Nugzar Tatalashvili (73 kg) equalized the total score, by defeating Pierre Duprat. The only one warning decided the fate of this meeting. Referee gave this warning to the French.
In the 3rd meeting of Georgia – France, repeated the final of World individual Championship. Avtandil Chrikashvili (81 kg) tackled to Loic Pietri, to whom he lost the chance to reach the pedestal several days ago. Chrikashvili needed a minute and a half for the revenge. He gained 2 waza-ari by beautiful throw and promoted Georgian team. In the 1/8 final, Varlam Liparteliani won over Aksel Klerje.
Opposition of heavyweights has lost meaning. But Okruashvili had the opportunity to try once again to win over Teddy Riner. In spring Riner won over Okruashvili at European Championship final and the day before yesterday in the semifinal of World Championship.
In the meeting, French Goliath refused to fight and he let the referee to announce the opponent as a winner, but they were categorically demanded to continue the meeting, and he won again, but this time with only one shido.
In the ¼ final the Georgian five competed against Mongols. The winner was known after the meeting of the first four weights.
Uznadze made 2 changes – Shavdatuashvili replaced with Amiran Papinashvili and Tatalashvili with zebeda Rekhviashvili.
The Mongols won the first fight, after when Tumurkhuleg Davaadorj won over Papinashvili by the only one shido. Rekhviashvili won over Tsagaanbaatar Khashbaatar by 2 waza-ari in 3 minutes. Avtandil Chrikashvili won over Nyam- Ochir Sainjargal by shodos 2:1. And Liparteliani won the clean victory over Tsogtgerel Khutag in the semifinal. Adam Okruashvili defeated Naidan Tuvshinbayar in 2 minute and a half.
In the semifinal, Georgian team was able to face Japan, but the founders of judo suddenly made mistake and the Uzbek team faced the Georgians.
As in the previous stages, we lost again in the first weight category. Lasha Shavdatuashvili lost to Rishod Sobirov by waza-ari. Nugzar Tatalashvili equalized by yuko against Mirali Sharipov. Avtandil Chrikashvili won over Yakhyo Imamov. At first he won over by waza-ari and then he beat him with an effective throw. Varlam Liparteliani won over Erkin Donyiorov in 2 minutes. Adam Okruashvili defeated Soyib Kurbanov in the first minute of the fight.
The Russians got more lightweight mesh and, consequently, they reached the ¼ final without any problems. They won over Columbia and Cuba 5:0 and 4:1 to South Korea.
The final started with the fight of Lasha Shavdatuashvili and Alim Gadanova. This time the Georgian was not able to identify his opportunities and at the end of the meeting he lost by waza-ari. The overall situation has become more complicated after when Rekhviashvili lost to Murad Kozokov. But the Georgian judoka had a huge advantage before this lost and he was winning waza-ari and yuko, but he missed 4 seconds for the victory.
The opponent of Georgia needed to take one point for becoming world champion. Three weight categories were ahead. Avtandil Chrikishvili reduced 2-point advantage by beating Sirazhudin Magomedov. European champion and world silver medal winner Georgian judoka won 2:1. Varlam Liparteliani won over Kirill Denisov by one shido.
Adam Okruashvili and Alexander Mikhaylin wrestled for gold medal and the Georgian heavyweight beat his rival for the second time.
The Georgian team won 3:2 and took the first place in Rio de Janeiro.
Japan and Uzbekistan won bronze medals. World Team Championship was held among the women as well. Japan defeated Brazil 3:2 in final. Cuba and France took the third places.
