Nugzar Margvelashvili: "First Manager, Then Keeping the Belt"

Nugzar Margvelashvili beat Davit Makaradze in one of the rating matches which was held in Vera Park Boxing Hall on November 9. It was the 18th victory for a 24-year-old sportsman from Sachkhere district. He has held 27 matches and lost 9 times. Margvelashvili (61 kg) is in the 331st place in WBU ranking. If he competes well in Tbilisi rating matches in December, perhaps, he will advance in ranking.
"In 2007 I became champion after beating Scottish Barry Haggis in Glasgow. My main task will be to keep this title in future", - stated Nugzar Margvelashvili to "World Sport".
- What version of the belt did you win?
- International belt of WBU. Giorgi Kandelaki had the same belt many years ago.
- Did you hold a match to keep this belt since 2007?
- Unfortunately no and there is no plan. I mush find a manager before anything is decided. It is not easy.
- As a rule, if owner does not hold a match to keep the belt maximum after a year, you might lose it. Were not you under this danger?
- The match was to be held in 2008 but because of Georgian-Russian war it was postponed. Since then, it cannot be organized because I did not have a manager and was injured. In spite of that 3 years have already passed I have not lost my belt. I will do my best to find a sponsor and will hold a match in summer 2011.
- Where are you training now?
- Anatoli Kavtaradze is training me at Army Sport Club Gym.
- When did you hold your first match?
- In 2006. Before that I was training in amateur boxing. I became champion among juniors and won silver medal among seniors.
- Perhaps, Avtandil Khurtsidze will hold the next match in Tbilisi. If this is decided then some matches must be held...
- I hope, Georgian boxers will have a chance to show ourselves. As for me, I will participate with great pleasure.
