Heavyweight Davit Modzmanashvili, member of Georgian freestyle wrestling team, won two meeting at European Championship in Vantaa (Finland) and made through to the semifinal. Iakob Makarashvili (74kg) lost in the first circle.

Modzmanashvili opened the Championship by beating Moldovan Andrey Romanov (8:0). In 1/4 final he overcame Azerbaijani Jamaladin Magomedov (5:2). In semifinal he will face Russian Alan Khugaev.

Current European champion Aniuar Geduev locked Makarashvili the chance of gold-silver and the Georgian only have to wait when the Russian goes into the final, in order to switch to repechage.
