Before the start of the presidium meeting of Georgia’s Wrestling Federation, part of the wrestlers and coaches demanded resignation of Eldar Kurtanidze, president of the federation. Later, Kurtanidze made a statement for the news program “Moambe”.

“I am apologizing to the fans and Georgian people. After a two-year failure, I have made a decision to dismiss Revaz Mindorashvili and Begi Darchia, head coaches of the Greco-Roman and freestyle wrestling teams. I wanted to appoint coaches of the youth teams on their posts. Recently, they have achieved great success. Finally, we have given another chance to Mindorashvili and Darchia and we will make a final decision after the upcoming tournament.  

As for my presidential work, I think I have faithfully done my duty. The wrestlers held very productive meetings in Minsk and Tsaghkadzor. We appointed them one of the best bonuses in Europe. I have fulfilled my duties 100 per cent. That is why I am surprised that these people are demanding my resignation. Everyone should do his job and I will carry out mine. There are 4300 wrestlers and more than 250 coaches in Georgia. Of course, they can openly express their position. We must find a way out from this tough situation. We must be orientated on victory. In the end, I want to note that we have a chance to host World Championship. It is 90 per cent in favor of us”, - stated Luka Kurtanidze.
