European Freestyle and Greco-Roman Wrestling Championships have ended up. Tbilisi Sports Palace hosted the championship for 6 days. The last champion and prize winners were found out in 84kg where Georgian Vladimer Gegeshidze took the second place.
“World Sport” talked to Vladimer Gegeshidze, Luka Kurtanidze, president of Georgian Wrestling Federation, and world champion Mikheil Saladze.
Vladimer Gegeshidze: I could have won final but I am satisfied with silver medal if we consider that I wrestled against titled Russian wrestler.
- In which moment could you have won?
- There was a moment but it is no use to talk about it now. I lost and took the second place.
Luka Kurtanidze: Georgia showed good result at this championship. Managers of European and World Federations were satisfied. Changes in freestyle wrestling worked. We won 2 gold and 2 bronze medals. I am dissatisfied with Greco-Roman wrestling where we won only 2 silver and one bronze medal.
Mikheil Saladze: Unfortunately, Greco-Roman wrestling is not beautiful to watch as it was before. Changes must be made. I did not think that people love wrestling in Georgia so much. The palace was almost crowded. I was happy to see youngsters here.
