Special commission of sports service of Kutaisi City Hall evaluated results of sports season 2012 and named the best sportsmen, coaches and teams of the city.
European champion and participant of London Olympic Games heavy weight Raul Tsirekidze was named as the best sportsman of the year. Besides Tsirekidze, the following sportsmen were in Top 10: Genadi Chirgadze (sambo), Merab Turkadze (boxing), Nana Dzagnidze (chess), Omar Gurjidze (freestyle wrestling), Shota Gogisvanidze (Greco-Roman wrestling), Beka Bazadze, Sandro Bazadze (both - fencing), Rostom Khakhaleishvili, Leri Chelidze (both – judo).
Top 10 coaches are: Gia Tsirekidze, Malkhaz Lomtadze (both – heavy athlete), Vepkhia Balkhamishvili, Davit Tevdoradze (both – judo), Merab Bazadze (fencing), Koba Akhvlediani (freestyle wrestsling), Elguja Maruashvili (Greco-Roman wrestling), Sanatreli Bebia (kick boxing), Givi Sardanadze (sambo), Kukuri Shavgulidze (boxing).
The best teams of the year are “Kutaisi 2010” (basketball), “Torpedo” (football), “Kutaisi” (field hockey, men).
The best sportsmen were awarded with 800 GEL and coaches – with 400 GEL.
