The president of Georgian National Wrestling Federation Luka Kurtanidze, who returned to the active sport after a long pause, lost from the first meeting for the Gold at the “Throne Cup” in Tehran. 5 times champion of Europe and 2 times of World in freestyle wrestling, who is already 41 years old, wrestled in 97kg weight category and lost to Turkish current European champion Ali Bonchioglu.
“Kurtanidze tried to wrestle beautifully and effectively, and made the audience inspire, but he lost a lot of points and finally lost 10:12” – reports Iranian news agency ISNA.
Today the medals will be played in 57, 65, 74 and 97 kg weight categories at “Throne Cup”. Besides Kurtanidze, Lasha Talakhadze, Otar Gogava, Levan Tsalkalamanidze, Beka Bujiashvili (all 57kg), Konstantine Khabalashvili (65kg), Iakob Makarashvili (74kg) and Dato Kerashvili (97kg) also wrestled. According to the final data, Tsalkalamanidze, Bujiashvili and Makarashvili also lost in the initial stage.
