Expecting Two Bronze

The Georgian judo team will finish the first day of Tbilisi Grand Prix without gold-silver medals. Two Georgians will wrestle for bronze medals.

Amiran Papinashvili and Lukhum Chkhvimiani (both 60 kg) are one win away from taking the third place.

Papinashvili who is No.1 seed at the tournament lost to Gabit Yessimbetov of Kazakhstan in ¼ final. Before this the Georgian defeated Tseden Raakhanjav of Mongolia in 15 seconds.

In repechage semifinal Papinashvili beat compatriot Giorgi Brolashvili. Amiran will face London Olympic champion Arsen Galstyan of Russia.

Lukhum Chkhvimiani won over Grigor Ivanyan of Armenia by ippon. In ¼ final he lost to Orkhan Safarov of Azerbaijan.

In repechage Chkhvimiani beat compatriot Paata Merebashvili. In the decisive fight he will face Gabit Yessimbetov of Kazakhstan.

Giorgi Brolashvili and Paata Merebashvili held two-two fights. Brolashvili won over Vugar Shirinli of Azerbaijan in 3 minutes and then lost to Yerkebulan Kossayev of Kazakhstan. Merebashvili defeated Yoav Shemesh of Israel and then lost to Arsen Galstyan of Russia.

Four Georgians wrestled in 66 kg but none of them will compete in the evening block. Tristan Peikrishvili and Shalva Kardava were one win away from the goal.

In 1/8 final Kardava defeated Davit Ghazaryann of Armenia 3:1. In ¼ final he lost to Shikhalizada of Azerbaijan. In repechage semifinal the Georgian judoka wrestled Alim Gadanov of Russia and lost.

In ¼ final Tristan Peikrishvili failed to Georgii Zantaraia of Ukraine. Before this the Georgian beat Tarlan Karimov of Azerbaijan. In repechage semifinal Peikrishvili faced Batgerel Battsetseg of Mongolia and lost.

In this weight class Giorgi Kaldani and Gela Kelikhashvili also wrestled in the name of Georgia but both of them lost.

Kaldani won over Nauryzbek Mailashev of Kazakhstan and then lost to Batgerel Battsetseg of Mongolia.

Kelikhashvili failed to Alim Gadanov in 1/8 final. Before this, he defeated Bar Raufman of Israel.

Today champions and prize winners will be found out in female 48, 52 and 57 kg. Georgia has a representative only in 57 kg. Salome Abashidze, Mariam Tsikhelashvili and Sophio Beridze have already wrestled but lost.

Salome Abashidze lost to Katinka Szabo of Hungary, Mariam Tsikhelashvili – to Kifayat Gasimova of Azerbaijan and Beridze – to Tatiana Noskova of Russia.

The final block will start at 17:00 and the opening ceremony – at 16:30.
