Several teams are staying at ‘Atlanta” Hotel and among them is Hungarian “Ujpest”. I learnt a little information about this club with help of internet and the surname of the head coach was familiar to me- Belgian Jos Dairden.
I remembered from old books that exactly Dairden scored double against “Dinamo” Tbilisi in 1982 in semi-final round of Cup of the Cups. It is about the match between “Dinamo” and “Standard” of Liej, which ended with the same score in Tbilisi as well as in Belgium 0:1.
Dairden, Erik Gerets, Simon Tahamat and others managed to go through the final instead of us. Final was held in Barcelona, where “Barca” beat “Stamdard” 2:1.
I met tall, 60-year-old Dairden in the foyer of the hotel and I remembered him the match with “Dinamo”:
-Oh, it is my best memory. The matches with “Dinamo” Tbilisi are very sweet memories for me. We played the both these matches on a contra-attack. “Dinamo” was doing its best to play offensive football, but we managed and won. It was pleasant, that I scored both of the goals.
- Who you remember the most from “Dinamo”?
- Kipiani. But there were a lot of high-class players: Salukvadze, Chivadze, Shengelia… it was southern style and they were playing very well.
- “Dinamo” was the owner of Cup of the Cups at that time. Did not you afraid of it?
- We had a very strong club. The most of the players of “Standard” were the players of the national team. “Dinamo” was also a very strong club, they won the final in Dusseldorf a year ago.
- We know that “Standard” created very many off-sides against “Dinamo” and as a result it won the mostly..
- Yes, it is true. For that time this tactic was newly worked out. Do you remember these matches? How old are you?
- Now, I have not watched it, but we these matches are reminded in Georgia, they talk about the off-sides of “Standard”. It is like a legend that there were more than 20 off-sides. Could you beat “Barcelona” in final?
- No, we could not. “Barcelona” was better club than “Standard”.
- Have you got any information about contemporary Georgian football?
- I know the surnames, but I do not have any contact with any of them.
