Georgian diving team participated in European Championship which was held in Italy on March 8-14. The team competed in 3m synchronized springboard and went through the final.
Chanturia-Korakhashvili duet collected 363 points in the qualifying round and 377 points in the final. As for individual diving, Chola Chanturia took the 15th place (363) among 30 sportsmen but he could not go through the final.
Irakli Bartaia, general secretary of Georgian Water Sports Federation, told “World Sport” that Chanturia competed normally. He needed 7 points for the final. As for Shota Korakhashvili (311), he could not compete successfully and took the 33rd place.
- As you know, fans of Georgian sport make comments on our website. One of the fans mentioned that you competed with easy program. What can you say about it?
- It was not easy program. 7 teams from 13 have the same program. Ukraine and some other teams had more difficult programs but their sportsmen are older. We could not have gone through the final with easy program.
- Do you have chance to achieve success at London Olympiad 2012?
- We do not have chance to win medals in 2012. The most important is to go through the semifinal, though we will have this chance at Olympiad 2016.
- What do you think about having foreign coach?
- If there will be finances for foreign coach, why not.
- What are you planning for future?
- We will not participate in Canadian and American Grand Prix. Also, we will not be able to compete in several international tournaments because we do not have finances. We will compete in German (May 27-29) and Italian (June 7-10) Grand Prix. After this, we will hold meeting and will leave for China to compete in Shanghai World Championship.
