Davit Khutsishvili (74 kg), freestyle wrestler of Georgian youth team, ended up wrestling at the tournament and begins fighting to take place in main team. A 20-year old wrestler won wrestling twice within a year interval and became a champion of Europe and World among youngsters. Khutsishvili talked about his perfect season and future plans to "World Sport".
Davit Khutsishvili: "I started training at the age of 10 in Sagarejo in 2000. My first coach was Ramaz Asabashvili. He taught me wrestling".
-Why did you choose wrestling?
-First I was sent to train for judo but I was little...
- You continued training in Tbilisi since 2008...
- Aleko Kakhniashvili was training me. Before that, I became a youth champion of Georgia and then became a member of national team. I wrestled at European Championship and got through first three places. I have already been wrestling in youth team for 2 years.
- Last year you had less honourable result. How do you think what was the main reason that you improved your result?
- First of all, I worked hard and coach supported me. Of course, I had better experience now. I won a bronze medal at European Championship last year but I was left beyond first three places at World Championship. This year I won at both championships.
- Did you expect such results?
- I could not really think that I could win gold medals at the both championships. I really had a great desire to win and trained with all my heart. European gold made me believe in myself and decided to think about World Championship. I am very happy that I managed to do it...
- As a rule , Russian wrestlers are always named as favourites. You, on your way to European and World Championships, defeated Russian competitors...
- I defeated Zaur Makiev at European Championship. I had never met him better. At World Championship Russians put Arsen Shalaev instead of Makiev. Shalaev defeated me at the International Tournament but this time I won.
- Maybe sometimes you had to wrestle with elder wrestlers. Were these Russians also elders?
- It is difficult to prove it but maybe it was so, especially in case of Shalaev. But I do not pay attention to such facts.
- Who do think is the best from active wrestlers?
- It is difficult to say it. I cannot name one from them.
- Do you have a deserving sportsman?
- Revaz Mindorashvili. He worked hard and became champion of all great tournaments. He beat Giorgi Ketoev at Beijing Olympic Games.
- You have already finished wrestling in youth team at World Championship in Budapest. Do you feel sorry for it?
- Tbilisi Sport Palace may host Youth World Championship next year. I would wrestle with great pleasure in front of my fans to win the second gold medal. But unfortuantely my age does not let me do it.
- When are you going to start fighting to take a place in the main team?
- I will join the expanded team from the upcoming meeting. Time will show us. There is a difficult interior competition but I am not afraid of it. I should take place in the main team as soon as possible.
- Are you going to change your weight category?
- I do not have a problem about overmuch weight. I need to lose a little bit to reach 74 kg. So I will still wrestle in this weight category.
