“I congratulate Polish national team and their coach Igor. This was a good basketball. Polish played better tonight. On the other hand, we did not play well in offense. Despite lack in offense, I should give a credit for the good defensive play. I am not satisfied in terms of result, though.” – stated Georgian national team coach Igor Kokoshkov after the Lodz match press-conference.
Serbian specialist took into consideration things that are visible from a spectator’s point of view. Georgian players defended their rim well, however struggled in a precise shooting up front. This has been the lowest scoring game for team Georgia in current qualification stage so far.
“We had an outline, which was disturbed by the Polish players. We shot 64 times out of which scored only 28, which is a very low percentage. The hosts deserved to win tonight. They organized their counter attacks better and had fewer turnovers compared to us.
We should try to maximize control on the game and go forward in every match we play. Pachulia had a knee injury after the game against Bulgaria. This was a reason why he missed two consecutive practices with his team. Fortunately, he managed to play in tonight’s game due to a better knee condition.” – added Kokoshkov.
One of the Georgian team leaders Manuchar Markoishvili thinks that Poland deserved victory also. “Manu” has played second game in a row on a high level. To his 23 points that he harvested in Bulgaria he added 19 points in Lodz; however, his teammates were unable to back him up.
“Polish were better looking side. They played aggressively. As for us, we can talk about two positive factors. The first one is that we played till the end. Second, is that we did not give up to the Polish side, which is a good sign for the future games. We were happy that Zaza Pachulia managed to play after two days of battling with his injury. His presence on the floor really helped us. If we want to participate in the final stage, we should win all the remaining games.”
In the end, we would like to introduce you comments made by Belarus head coach of Poland Igor Gryschuk, who was really heartbroken during the after-match press conference.
“After the last game against Belgium we hoped that we will play well and it happened so. In Georgia we lost by 19 points so we knew that we should reduce this deficit. Unfortunately, despite trying to do so we could not achieve what we wanted. In the last quarter we were leading by 16 points; however, risky game did not justify itself. We missed a lot of shots. Anyhow, victory is always pleasant.”
