It has been proved several times that Georgians do everything strangely. Executive committee of Georgian Football Federation appointed presidential elections two weeks ago but election campaign has not started yet. According to the regulations, presenting of candidates must be finished 10 days before elections (January 22). During this period, candidate of at least one from 33 subjects must take written consent to general secretariat.
Current president Zviad Sichinava has already been presented by 20 election subjects but this man does not hurry to make a written consent. In fact, he does not have to hurry - he does not have an opponent and it does not matter when he starts his election campaign, now or on January 13. No one expected other behaviour from him.
Yesterday it was found out that debts will be "basic" part of Sichinava's campaign. "TaoPrivatBank" seized accounts of the federation demanding its own 300 000 EUR. We think, it is part of the election campaign which has not started yet. The president of GFF will get money "somehow" and he will prove his "strength" to those weak people who want to take his place.
Though, neither Sichinava nor anyone who is supported by the government must be afraid of strong opponents. Do you believe that the government will let its undesirable candidate rule 7 million budget? So, it does not matter who will be president - the most important is that he must be complaisant.
Now we want to express our opinion about that disturbing tendency of presenting presidential candidates. Sichinava has been presented by many subjects (one subject was enough). It is not surprising that regional federations and other small associations are in the list of these subjects. But it is disappointing that independent football structures are also in this list.
Specialist, fan or representative of other "field" who is interested in clearness of Georgian football, knows that referees in the federation structure cannot be "holy priests". These referees are more dangerous when they judge the match where clubs of businessmen play because the president of the federation got these businessmen interested in Georgian football.
In order to avoid such attitude, the federation must not meddle in seeking sponsor or owner for club. And Referees' Union must be an independent structure.
When the referees will have such independent structure, they will not have to organize a special meeting to present a candidate. We think, it is not fair that the referees can vote in the elections. Give freedom to the referees and football will not lose.
We want to know what other 13 subjects which have not presented candidate are waiting for. They are also "children" of this system which can elect one president (Nemsadze) today and the day after tomorrow they will elect a new and unworthy president (Akhalkatsi).
Do you know what kind of finish do leaders of Georgian football deserve? Someone (for example, banker) should offend Zviad Sichinava so that, he will refuse to participate in the elections. Then it will be interesting what these subjects will do.
