GTU Becomes Champion the 19th Time

 

Georgian national 22nd men handball championship finished. On the last day of the tournament “Kutaisi” played against “TSSU-Merani”. The match ended in favor of “TSSU-Merani”-50:36, Zurab Simonia scored 14 goals for winner club, as for loser club, Gogita Nikuradze scored 20 goals. Later “Kakheti” played against youth team. In a tense match “Kakheti” beat the rival 37:35. Termur Orjonikidze unchangeable bombardier scored 14 goals for youth team. As for “Kakheti”, Vasil Gigauri scored the same amount of goals. Today, GTU and “TSU-Tbilisi” held the last championship match. The match ended in favor of GTU-33:30 and became champion the 19th time. Zurab Melkoshvili scored 7 goals for the winner club as for youth team, Giorgi Iobanishvili scored 11 goals. Mirian Gogladze No.10 player of GTU was named as the player of the match. He was awarded with cup named after Amiran Kipiani – died teammate and member of Georgian national team.

Giorgi Godabreladze (President of Georgian handball federation): “ It is remarkable that, the winner of the championship after three-year pause was created again in help with head of university and they got back title of championship. For the future, we want to include more regions, for example Kvemo Kartli, Adjaria etc. Now we are solving infrastructural problems and we promise you that since September we will have more interesting championship”.

Irakli Kekelidze (head coach of GTU):” before starting the tournament we stated that we would fight for championship and we did it. The opponents showed strong resistance but in spite of this we did not lose any match and became championship unbeatably”.

Mirian Gogaladze (handball player of GTU):”since childhood I and Amiran Kipiani used to train together and this cup is very important for me. As for championship, there were a few participants and as a result competition also was little. I hope, there will be more participants in the future and we will have more success”.
