The ball was taken of the Moldovan but Gogshelidze defended himself and gained point. It is worth mentioning that Gogshelidze started participation from the second circle. In 1/8 final Saleh Emara of Egypt did not show up and Gogshelidze gained victory by forfeit 5:0. In semifinal Giorgi wrestled against Jacob Stephen Varner of America. The Georgian won the first period 2:0. The second period finished draw. Ball was taken for Varner. The American won the second period and the third one turned out decisive. Unfortunately, Varner won the third period. Gogshelidze wrestled for bronze medal against Kurban Gazyumov of Uzbekistan. The Uzbek won the first period 1:0. The Georgian gained 4 points in the second period. The third period turned out decisive and Gogshelidze won it.

Gogshelidze brought the seventh medal to Georgian Olympic team. The Georgian athletes gained 1 gold, 3 silver and 3 bronze medals at the Olympics.
