Gia Gugava: "There Is a Strong Competition in the Team"

Georgian junior judo team will participate in World Championship with renovated team. The championship will take place in Slovenia on 23-27 October. The head coach of the team provided “World Sport” with this information. According to Gia Gugava, changes will be made in low weight categories. Five sportsmen who stood on the Sarajevo pedestal will compete in World Championship.

“We did not have participants in 55 and 66 kg at European Championship. It was tactical decision. Some judokas who did have wrestle in Sarajevo will participate in World Championship. Fortunately, there is a good competition in the team. I will not name these sportsmen but we will have a participant in 66 kg for sure. Team championship will also be held. We will try not to break brilliant tradition of the national team and to win World Team Championship”, - stated Gia Gugava.

According to the head coach, team candidates will hold one meeting before World Championship. The meeting will take place in Gori from October 5 and will last two weeks.

The Georgian team won five medals at European Championship and took the first team place. Beka Gviniashvili (90 kg) and Guram Tushishvili (100 kg) became champions of Europe. Levan Gugava (73 kg) and Levan Matiashvili (+100 kg) won silver medals. Giorgi Zakariadze (+100 kg) took the third place.
