German "Grand Prix" with Georgian Final and 7 Medals

The second day of Dusseldorf “Grand Prix” turned out more successful for Georgian judo team than the first one. Like Amiran Papinashvili (60kg) and Shalva Kardava (66kg), Avtandil Chrikishvili, Levan Tsiklauri (both 81kg), Varlam Liparteliani, Zviad Gogochuri (both 90kg) and Adam Okruashvili (+100kg) stood on the pedestal. Two of them took the first place. The team of Irakli Uznadze took the first place. Georgian final was held in 81kg. Chrikishvili and Tsiklauri wrestled against each other.

Tsiklauri beat world two-time and London Olympic champion Jae-Bum Kim of South Korea by yuko. Before this fight, Levan defeated Ivan Vorobev of Russia, Sven Maresch of Germany and Jaromir  Musil of Czech Republic.

In the first round Chrikishvili won over Thomas Davis of Great Britain. In 1/8 final he beat Loic Pietri of France. In ¼ final the Georgian defeated Joachim Bottieau of Belgium and in semifinal – Antoine Valois-Fortier of Canada.

The Georgian final lasted one minute and Avtandil Chrikishvili won by ippon.

Two members of the Georgian team got in top 3 of 90kg. They took the first and third place. Varlam Liparteliani added gold medal of Dusseldorf “Grand Prix” to the gold one of Paris “Grand Slam” which he won two weeks ago.

Liparteliani defeated Joakim Dvarby of Sweden, Dong Han Kwak of South Korea, Marc Odenthal of Germany, Noel Van Tend of Holland. In final the Georgian won over Tiago Camilo of Brazil by waza-ari.

Zviad Gogochuri lost gold-silver medal in ¼ final. He lost to Ilias Iliadis of Greece.

Before this, the Georgian judoka beat Ciril Grossklaus of Switzerland, Islam Bozbayev of Kazakhstan, Yannick Gutsche of Germany. In “bronze final” Gogochuri won over Noel Van Tend.

Aleksandre Mskhaladze and Giorgi Nozadze wrestled in the name of Georgia in 100kg. They held only one fight. Nozadze lost to Dino Pfeiffer of Germany. Mskhaladze lost to Rafael Buzacarini of Brazil.

Adam Okruashvili (+100kg) was one victory away from the championship title. The Georgian won over Ryuta Ishi of Japan, Janusz Wojnarowicz of Poland, Faicel Jaballah of Tunis. In final Okruashvili lost to Masaru Momose of Japan by ippon and won silver medal.

Levan Matiashvili also lost to Momose.

Joint team practices will be followed after Dusseldorf “Grand Prix” and the Georgian team will participate in it. At the end of the week the team will leave of Poland and will compete in Warsaw “European Open Championship” on weekend.
