German anti-record after the sensation

German national team sensationally beat Serbia in the second match day of the 2010 FIBA World Cup. Yesterday, however, Germans managed to drop in only 43 points against relatively weaker side than Serbia – Australia. This result was automatically “crowned” as tournament’s anti-record since nobody else has scored less than 43 points so far.

It should be noted that Germany national team players converted only 15 out of 58 (!) attempts of scoring. It is hard to think about any success having these statistics behind.

In the same Group A, Serbian national team demoralized outsider Jordan beating the Asian side 112:69. Serbia is now the third team on the tournament which managed to roll over the 100 point limit; the other two teams are USA and Spain. Savanovic, Keselj, and Perovic all scored over 20 points with 21-21-20 respectively. Savanovic grabbed 7 while Perovic harvested 6 rebounds.

The most interesting encounter appeared to be a match between team USA and Brazil. USA is considered to be top favorites in winning the gold medals of the tournament, however, Mike Krzyzewski’s team made a bunch of mistakes that led to the moment when Marcelo Huertas had a chance of taking the game into the overtime by converting both three second before the final buzzer in front of 12500 spectators that were present in the stands. Unfortunately for him, he missed the first one and hit the rim on purpose for the second try. This action justified Marcelo’s plan since Barbosa grabbed the rebound but failed to score on the follow up. “Oklahoma City” forward Kevin Durant had a great night scoring 27 points and recording 10 rebounds from the game. Tiago Splitter also made a double-double scoring 13 points and grabbing 10 rebounds for the Brazilians.

Being a parts of former Yugoslavian Republic, Croatia and Slovenia introduced a real battle of three pointers on parquet, scoring 11 a peace. Finally the game finished with a 91:84 score in Slovenia favor. Lakovich and Slokar were on a top of Slovenia’s scoring list by harvesting 15 points each. Croatia’s Ukic converted 4 out of 5 three pointers and left the floor with a 20 point cart. Josip Vrankovic’s side lost its second game of the tournament while on the other hand Slovenia lost only to team USA.
