Georgians Started with Victories

 

Georgian chess players successfully started competition in 12th European Individual Men Chess Championship which is underway in the city of France, Aix les Bains. Six Georgian chess players from 8 achieved victory. Two Georgians played draw.

The following Georgians gained points: Levan Pantsulaia, Tornike Sanikidze, Davit Lobjanidze, Luka Paichadze, Salome Melia and Lela Javakhishvili.

Draw of No.8 seed Baadur Jobava against unknown French Terrieux was unexpected at European Championship. Davit Zarkua beat strong Armenian grandmaster Vladimir Akopoyan with black pieces.

About 400 chess players are participating in European Championship. 9 players have more than 2700 ratings. Russian Peter Svidler (2730) is the best among them. He played draw against Dam Helgi Ziska of Faroe Islands (2432). 11 rounds will be held at the tournament. The last one will be held on April 2.
