Georgian national rugby union team which left for Sochi by Tbilisi-Sochi charter flight, arrived in Sochi on time but Georgian team had troubles while crossing the border. Coaches of the team were stopped at custom house. They were searched and questioned. Davit Kacharava, back of the national team, was stopped at the airport for two hours and was not allowed to go to the city.
Gia Nijaradze, president of Georgian Rugby Union, talked to president of Russian Rugby Union and the problem of Kacharava was solved. Official training of Georgian team was not held and after settling at “Spark Hotel” Richard Dixon trained the team theoretically.
Davit Kacharava: “They did not know the reason why they stopped me. They told me that I was not allowed to enter Russian territory because computer showed it. They did not know details”.
Giorgi Nijaradze: “They did not explain us anything. They just said that Davit Kacharava could not cross Russian territory. We contacted our colleagues at Russian Rugby Federation – Viacheslav Kopov, president of Russian Rugby Union. They interfered in this case and the problem was solved”.
