Match day five of the FIBA World Cup that is being hosted by four beautiful Turkish cities: Kayseri, Istanbul, Ankara, and Izmir was concluded today. The championship leaders in the groups A, B, C, and D are Argentina, USA, Turkey, and Lithuania respectively.

Turkey was the team that struggled the most among the top-four mention above. The reason for that was a great performance by Puerto Rican national team. Turkey was travelling by seven points half way through the match however managed to make a turnaround and won the game with the score of 79:77. Puerto Rico had a chance of winning the game in the last seconds but their three point attempt was off the target thanks to the organized hosts’ defensive line. Ersan İlyasova finished the game with double double by scoring 13 points and winning 13 boards from the game. Hidayet TÜRKOĞLU scored 16 points and assisted 5 times.

Spain founded a good way to rehabilitate after the defeat from Lithuania. Defending world champions crushed Lebanese side with a score of 91:57 in despite of the fact that Spaniards lost the first quarter by one point – 22:21.

Marc Gasol was the most valuable player for Spain, who dropped in 25 points and added 8 rebounds. Another dramatic win was celebrated by the Lithuanian team which made a massive comeback in a game against France. Baltic team lost the first quarter 11:24 and came back to win this one with a 27 (!!!) point margin.

Today the last matches of the preliminary round will be held, after which the remaining participants will take a day off before the 1/8 finals would start.
