"Kolkheti" Poti is 100 Years Old

Today football club “Kolkheti” Poti celebrated its 100th anniversary in Poti.

Football club so-called “Cradle of Georgian football” was founded in 1913.

Until 1978 “Kolkheti” on behalf of “Kolkhida” won the Georgian Regional Championship in 1978 and 1988. In 1990 took part in the opening match of the first Georgian national Championship against “Iberia” Tbilisi. The match ended with the victory of “Kolkheti” and the only goal was scored by Gela Ketashvili in his own goal.

“Kolkheti” had the best result in 1993-1994 and 1996-1997, when the team took the 2nd place in the Georgian national Championship.

Unfortunately “Kolkheti” plays in the First League in current Championship, however the team is a leader of standings and most likely will return to the Premier League next year.

The 100th anniversary event was held in Poti at the hippodrome. This event turned to be quite nice with participation of young future football players, local dance ensembles and singers.

The guests were invited as from Tbilisi as from the different parts of Georgia. Among the guests were Domenti Sichinava, president of Football Federation, journalist Davit Minashvili and other representatives of the sporting world.

After the event the inhabitants of Poti hosted the guests at the restaurant called “Monopole”.
