Elene Did Her Best in Long Program

A 20-year-old Georgian sportswoman Elene Gedevanishvili competed much better on the second day of NHK Trophy. She showed the 3rd place which was enough to take the 6th place among 12 participants.
At the first stage of International Skating Union (ISU) Grand Prix which was held in the city of Japan, Nagoya, Elene received only 44.51 points in short program and took the 9th place.
Georgian girl looked well in long program (she danced on the music of Andrew Lloyd Webber from the movie "The phantom of the opera"). Elene got 46.97 points for technical components and 50.04 points for program components. Overall, she got 97.01 points and was only behind American Rachael Flatt (107.35) and Italian Carolina Kostner (107.34).
In the end, Gedevanishvili collected 141.52 points and took the 6th place. If Elene had showed her best result (165.54), she would have become a champion. Kostner became champion of NHK Trophy with 164.61 points. Flatt took the 2nd place with 161.04 points. Japanese Muramaki won bronze medal (150.16).
Gedevanishvili who took the 3rd place at last European Championship, is in the 3rd place among Europeans at this tournament. Besides Kostner, Finnish Kiira Korpi was ahead of Elene. She took the 4th place with 148.44 points.
Prize money of NHK Trophy was 180 000 USD. Champion won 18 000 USD and she also earned 15 rating points. Gedevanishvili got only 5 rating points. Before this tournament, Georgian sportswoman had 1906 points and was in the 12th place in world ranking.
After the end of all Grand Prix stages (each sportswomen can participate in two tournaments), six best girls will compete in final round which will be held in the capital of China, Beijing, on December 9-12. Prize money of the final tournament is 272 000 USD.
