Janashvili Gains Silver

 

 

Champions and prize winners were found out in 8 weight categories (4-4 girls and boys) at "European Cup Cadets" which was underay in the city of Poland, Bielsko. On the first day of two-day tournament, On May 18, 8 judokas represented Georgia and only one of them managed to become prize winner- Mariam Janashvili gained a silver medal in 52 weight category. Before the final she held 5 matches and won all these five matches with ippon.

After beating Jew Dar Avisar, French Patin Guenel, Dutch Larisa Van Krevel, Hungarian Jurina Darias and Russian Elizaveta Stepanova, in the decisive fight lost with a yellow card with an outsider.

Guranda Shotadze also represented Georgia in 52kg weight category, but she stayed beyond the tournament in the 1/8 final. Mzia Beboshvili (48kg) also finished competition at this tournament with the same result. Giorgi Tenadze the head coach of the team took four judokas in Poland and only Khatia Janashvili (63kg) has not wrestled yet.

Irakli Tsirekidze the head coach of boys' team took 10 sportsmen there, five of them wrestled on the first day of the tournament. Robizon Beglarishvili (50kg) had a real chance of entering in the top 3. He managed to go through the semi-final, but lost with a future champion-Azerbaijani Natig Gurbanli. In repechage final he lost with Ukrainian Artem Martirosyan. Finally he took the fifth place.

Irakli Kupatadze, Tornike Negliashvili and Niko Chikaidze also wrestled in 50 weight category. Kupatadze and Nagliashvili took the 7th places and eded their points to the team. As for Chikaidze, he stayed beyond the top 8, Erekle Arkhozashvili (55kg) stopped comeptition in the 1/8 final.

On May 19, champions and prize winners will be found out in 4-4 weight categories among girls as well as boys. Zurab Lomidze (73 kg), Giorgi Gvelesiani, Davit Ramazashvili (both of them 90kg), Jaba Mumladze, Bakar Kukhianidze (both of them +90kg) and Khatia Janashvili (63kg) will represent Georgia.
