“Davit Marsagishvili and Iakob Makarashvili put personal interests above the dignity of the national team and that is why we took the second place at “European Nations Cup” – stated Luka Kurtanidze, president of Georgian Wrestling Federation, at the press conference today. The both sportsmen received 6-month disqualification.

Kurtanidze also stated that he has not talked to Davit Marsagishvili about it but he contacted the sportsman in Moscow and did not look disappointed.

Davit Marsagishvili did not attend the press conference. European champion showed up 20 minutes after the end of the press conference. However, he did not make an official statement and went to the cabinet of the president. After half an hour he came out and made a statement.

“It is a very bad fact and I take responsibility. I confess I did not behave well but it was not a deliberate behavior. I was deceived. I was in Iran to wrestle at the club level and I had to stay one day more. If I had known I would miss wrestling in the national team, I would not have departed for Iran. I arrived in Moscow but unfortunately, I could not wrestle on the mat. I did not know about the disqualification. I learnt about it from journalist and came here. Today I was going to come and talk to Kurtanidze. I could not do it in Moscow. The competent people will make a final decision in the next few days. They will discuss the disqualification and hopefully, will annul it” – stated Davit Marsagishvili.
