Khanty Mansiysk, city of Russia, will host the 39th of men and the 24th of women World Chess Olympiad from September 21 till October 3. On September 19, Georgian chess team left for Russia by Tbilisi-Munich-Khanty Mansiysk flight. Officially the tournament will start on September 20 and the chess players will hold 11 rounds. September 26 and October 2 are dayoffs. Champions and prize winners will be rewarded on October 3, in the evening.
Georgian women's chess team is current Olympic champion and they will try to defend their title. But they will do it without experienced and titled Maia Chiburdanidze who finished a team career. Instead of Maia, Nana Dzagnidze will play on the first board. Teams left for Olympiad with the following staff.
