Championship without Medal

Unsuccessful World Championship for Georgian judo finished in Tokyo. The last day of the tournament - September 13 was as unsuccessful for the team of Amiran Totikashvili as other days of the tournament. Three Georgian judokas wrestling in absolute weight class were left beyond the pedestal. They finished participation in the championship from the first stage.
Aleksandre Mskhaladze was the only one judoka who was taken to Japan to wrestle in absolute weight class. Adam Okruashvili and Levan Zhorzholiani were decided to wrestle in weight classes during World Championship. Totikashvili wrote the name of Lasha Gujejiani in the request form of the last day. This heavyweight judoka competed in voting and "World Sport" also wrote about his possible opponent but several hours before the match he was taken from the wrap.
Mskhaladze started participation in the championship from the second circle. After beating Australian Joshua Dali within one minute, he lost against Japanese Kazuhiko Takahashi in 3 minutes and half. Okruashvili also started from the second circle and won over Polish Janus Voinarovic by yuko. But Japanese Keiji Sudzuki defeated him by ippon. Zhorzholiani lost against the first opponent Spanish Anjel Para with points.
The hosts had the best result in absolute weight class. Three from 4 Japanese judokas: Hiroki Tachiama, Keiji Sudzuki and Daiki Kamikava went through the semifinal. Kazuhiko Takahashi was beat by the strongest heavyweight judoka Teddy Riner in the 1/4 final. Soon after French judoka defeated Tachiama and wrestled against Daiki Kamikava in the final. The third European-Asian match was the most tense and after futile main and added time, referees declared Kamikava as a champion.
Japanese team collected so many points that if other countries had participated together, anyway, Japanese would have taken the first place. Georgian team took the 24th place but as Georgian delegation included only men judokas, we will discuss men team results. Varlam Liparteliani (the 5th place), Davit Asumbani and Lasha Gujejiani (both the 7th place) gained points for the team of Amiran Totikashvili and Georgian team took the 16th place.
Georgian team will arrive in Tbilisi after two days and supposedly, we should expect great changes in team management as well as in Judo Federation.
