Last weekend Georgian Greco-Roman and Freestyle Wrestlers succeeded at international tournament named after Freidenfels which was underway in the capital of Latvia, Riga. This traditional tournament used to be held only in freestyle wrestling and this year classical style also has been added to the program.
Georgian team won 16 medals. 10 of the medals were won by Greco-Roman wrestlers. Kemal Kharabadze (60 kg), Sachino Davitaia (66 kg), Ushangi Chitiashvili (74 kg) and Revaz Nadaresihvili (84 kg) became champions. Sergo Gogisvanidze (120 kg) won silver medal and Piruz Tsulukidze (60 kg), Giorgi Davitaia (66 kg), Zurab Datunashvili (74 kg), Roebrt Kobliashvili (84 kg) and Shota Gogisvanidze (120 kg) took the third places. In spite of winning a lot of medals Georgian team took the second place it was caused because Georgian team did not have reps in three weight categories – 50, 55 and 96 kg. According to preliminary agenda they were preparing in Austria and were to join Georgian Team in Riga but due to visa problems they could not. Aleksandre Dikhaminjia leader of 96 weight category is preparing with the main team in Dusheti. Freestyle wrestling team won 2 gold, 3 silver and 1 bronze medals and according to such result team became champion. Lasha Talakhadze (50 kg) and Tedo Ebanoidze (96 kg) became champions. Lasha Lomtadze (55 kg), Tengiz Chochishvili (60 kg) and Giorgi Aslanishvili (120 kg) won silver medals. Davit Galegashvili (66 kg) took the third place.
Supposedly coaches will name main staff for European and World Championships at the end of spring. Till that time cadets are to participate in one more international tournament and will have preparation too.
This year two most important tournaments European and World championships are to hold in summer. On June 21-26 Serbia hosts European championship and on July 26-31 Romania hosts World Championship.
