Georgian chess players – Davit Benidze (2522) and Merab Gagunashvili (2619) who gained 8.5-8.5 points in 11 rounds shared the first-eighth places with six participants at the tournament which was underway in the city or Iran, Mashhed.
In the last round Gagunashvili played with white pieces against Uzbek Rustam Kasamzhanov (2687) 2004 World Champions who keeps the 48th place in FIDE rating. He draw with him and according to additional points took the 8th place. As for Benidze he won over Iranian Ahmadania (2417) and took the third place.
Mikheil Mchedlishvili (2641) had good chance of being among leaders. In the 11st round playing with white pieces he lost with Azerbaijani Gadi Guseinov (2591) and took the 22nd place with 7.5 points.
Konstantine Shanava who became champion of this tournament last year took the 15th place with 8.0 points, as for others they showed the following results: 25. Davit Maghalashvili – 7.5; 27. Bachana Morchiashvili – 7.5. 34. Iveri Chighladze – 7.0; 54. Shota Azaladze – 6.5.
According to additional results, Sergey Tiviakov 2008 European Champion (Holland, 2623) became champion of this tournament, from 40 000 prize money he was awarded with 8 000, Russian Sergey Gleizerov (2581) who took the second place was awarded with 5 200 $ and Benidze was awarded with 4 250 $ as for Gagunashvili, he was awarded with 1 530 $.
