Begi Darchia: "We must Compete in Olympiad with Whole Team"

Begi Darchia, head coach of Georgian Greco-Roman wrestling team, summarized results of European Championship in the interview with „World Sport“. On April 2-3, Georgian team won one gold medal at European Championship which was held in the city of Germany, Dortmund. On June 9-12, Georgian wrestlers will start preparation for World Championship with Tbilisi international tournament.

On September 12-18, Istanbul will host the most important tournament of the season. Six best wrestlers will gain licenses for London Olympic Games 2012.

- Are you satisfied with the results of European Championship?

- Manuchar Tskhadaia, Vladimir Gegeshidze and Ramaz Nozadze could not compete in the tournament because of injuries. Also, Archil Turmanidze could not participate in it. Considering all this, I am not dissatisfied with the result. I hope everyone will compete in World Championship and we will have better results.

- Manuchar Kvirkvelia, the most titled member of the team, ended up the tournament without victory. Did you expect such failure?

- We did not plan to let him participate in the tournament. He is preparing for World Championship and he was to wrestle on the mat in summer – at Tbilisi international tournament named after Givi Kartozia. At last, we decided to let him compete in Dortmund but it turned out that he was not on good form.

- Did you expect gold medal from Revaz Lashkhi?

- Revaz trained during the whole preparation circle. He has never been so well-prepared. I happy that he   became champion. I hope he will achieve more success in future.

- He got in good wrap...

- Revaz beat the strongest opponents. Anton Mamageishvili who was expected to win medal got injury.

- Olympic licenses will be played at World Championship. Considering last year’s failure is it real to gain licenses in all 7 weight classes?

- It will be difficult to gain all licenses at World Championship. We should achieve our goal at other tournaments.
