The history of “The Black Sea Cup” was created and the first owner of this tournament is “Batumi XV”. This club was staffed with rugby players from other clubs, but in spite of this “Batumi XV” named as a winner of this tournament in history, hope that this history will continue.
Final was quite interesting and tensed. Winner became this club which deserved it more. There was extra time but in compensated time “Batumi XV” kicked decisive penalty. “Batumi XV” gained two tries, but “Lelo” gained points without try. “Batumi XV” was playing approximately 30 minutes with 10-man but besides this they were inspired during the whole match. There was some episodes when they were 13 against 15.
“Batumi XV” advanced at the beginning of the match. They could not manage to kick first try but soon at the 4th minute Soselia (“Armazi”) after several kicks passed through the penalty area of rival. Kiknadze conversioned well. After first minutes of the match “Lelo” had playing advantages, they drop kicked but “Batumi XV” soon realized everything and saved the situation. Soon they were showed penalty due to offside, Kiasashvili kicked penalty from 27-28 meter distance but without result. Zviad Maisuradze started attack, but at final moment dropped ball on the ground. “Batumi XV” was playing quite well in defense. After west Georgians’ attack “Lelo” was showed penalty and Kiknadze kicked it well. At the 25th minute Kaisashvili kicked penalty and shortened point difference. But in two minutes Chkhikvadze passed through the defense line well, he was stopped by fouling the rule and in a result to it Kaisagashvili kicked penalty in 10 meter distance 6:13. At the 34 th minute “Lelo” lost ball in attack and his opponent started contra-attack. Revishvili and Shkinin tried to attack but in vain, “Lelo” saved the situation. Soon Khonelidze was shown yellow card, Kaisashvili kicked penalty well. “Batumi XV” attacked with 14-man staff quite well but could not gain a score. “Lelo” was shown penalty and Kaisashvili did it well again. The first half ended with minimum point difference 13:12.
“Lelo” started the second half with attack. Kaisashvili could not use penalty at the 44th minute. At the 48th minute when “Batumi XV” was left with 14-man staff again after Shkinini’s sin-bin, Kaisashvili kicked penalty well. After Shkinik, referee sin-binned Khositashvili and after Kaisashvili’s penalty score was 18:13. “Lelo” had chances of trying but they could not. Soon two players of “Batumi XV” came back to the pitch and attacked in dangerous way. At the 75th minute K.Aseshvili was sin-binned from “Lelo”. West Georgians used it and Tkhilaishvili kicked try. But Kiknadze could not conversion. During extra time, one minute earlier before final whistle Kaisashvili tried to kick penalty in a long distance but without result. In last minute “Lelo” was shown penalty and Kiknadze kicked it in 40 meter distance and made “Batumi XV” winner of this tournament 21:18.
So, “The Black Sea Cup” ended and Gia Nijaradze president of Georgian Rugby Union and “Batumi XV” was awarded with cup. Hope this tournament will become traditional and other strong rugby clubs from European countries will participate in it next time. In such case Georgian Rugby will become much more successful.
