"Austrian" Shengelia and Two Georgians Are One Point behind Leaders

After 5 rounds two chess players are leading European Individual Championship which is underway in Legnica, Poland. Davit Shengelia of Austria beat Alexander Areshchenko of Ukraine. Shengelia and Olexandr Moiseenko of ukrane have 4,5 points. These two chess players will play against each other in the sixth round. In the fifth round Moiseenko played draw with Zoltan Almasi of Hungary. Baadur Jobava and Merab Gagunashvili played draws against Mateusz Bartel of Poland and Sergei Zhigalko. Both Georgian chess players have 3,5-3,5 points. Unfortunately, Tornike Sanikidze lost to Ivan Ivanisevic of Serbia and has 2,5 points. As for Davit Lomsadze, he earned half point against Jan Machan of Czech Republic.

In the 6th round Jobava will play against Zaven Andriasian of Armenia, Gagunashvili – against Markus Ragger of Austria, Sanikidze – against Eduard Kanter of Russia and Lomsadze – against Pawel Musialkiewicz of Poland. Prize money of the tournament is 100 000 EUR and the best 23 chess players will compete in World Cup.
