The hardest, four-month period is over for Mamuka Gorgodze, 3rd liner of Georgian national team and “Toulon”. After moving to a new team, he had problem on his both knees and returned to the field just now.
In such circumstances, it is difficult to establish in lineup of “Toulon”, however, Gorgodze is not going to give up. “World Sport” contacted him in Toulon.
Mamuka Gorgodze: In fact, I have not played for “Toulon” yet. So happened that at the start of the season I got trauma of one knee and then on the second. In total, I missed 4 months.
-Did you have any problems with the club’s management due to so many injuries?
-I had support from the president and players. I am already 30 years old, which is not a small age for rugby and unfortunately, I need more time for recovery than before. But, that’s nothing, I feel good now and I look forward to when I go out on the field.
-So, do we see you in lineup often?
-In the team like “Toulon”, it is excluded to say such thing. Here is a big competition, but I am a perfectionist and cannot tolerate to be in substitutes.
-The main objective of this season is to win the Champions Cup or championship of Top-14?
-We will fight for both titles and will do our best.
-You had trauma in November and saw the games of “Lelo” from France. What was your impression about our next opponent Tonga at World Cup?
-It does not need my estimation. It is high-level team and the guys really played excellent, highly organized defense. In November, the team showed good defense in all three meetings. Unfortunately, we could not use our advantage in attack. Tonga will be favorite at World Cup, but we will have a chance to win.
-What were your impression on matches against Ireland and Japan?
-We played great defense against Ireland and unfortunately, we lost with heartbreaking difference. The team played very well against Japan, used our advantage and won.
-What shall we expect from World Cup 2015?
-The main goal at World Cup is to win two games, but such bold statement is a bit dangerous – I do not want fans to have excessive expectations. It is clear that we want to win two games. But, it would be better to create such mood to fight against all teams of England till the end.
All players dream to play against Zealand. In my opinion, we should go to the field and place our heart and soul. We have nothing to lose. I have such feeling. I wish all the players, at least once in their life to play against Zealand, especially in the World Championship. The game will take place in Cardiff.
It is difficult to say that we will beat Namibia. In 2007, we won over Namibia 30:0, but nobody knows what the team it is now. It is difficult to predict. However, this is a game, which we have to win undoubtedly.
-Recently decided that 25-30-thousand stadium will be built in Tbilisi for Georgian rugby team.
-Yes and by this news, many players’ dreams came true. Thanks to everyone who took part in making this decision. Thanks to those players, who proved with their hard work, that Georgian rugby is worthy to have such stadium.
