For many years, the International Day of disabled persons in the world is celebrated on every December 3. This day was established in 1992 on the initiative of the United Nations.
In order to celebrate this day, sports festival was held in the Kutaisi Sports Palace by the initiative and financial support of Ministry of Georgian Sports and Youth Affairs and City Hall. The competition was held in backgammon, checkers and arm-wrestling. About 250 disabled athletes of Tbilisi, Kutaisi, Batumi, Akhaltsikhe, Marneuli, Zugdidi, Senaki, Sachkhere, Chiatura, Vani and Tkibuli faced each other in the competition.
After the competition, the athletes of Paralympic Sports hold the demonstrative match in basketball.
After this, the closure of the event took place. The organizer of the competition “Agordzineba-2002” (Chairman Teimuraz Cheishvili) awarded athletes special prizes, diplomas, certificates.
In the evening, the athletes moved to the theatre named after Lado Meskhishvili, where the trade exhibitions of their works took place and then a gala concert was held in honor of them in which the blind singers participated as well.
