Mchedlishvili Gained Bronze

The Georgian team won the first medal at the Youth Judo World Championship. Koba Mchedlishvili, wrestler in 73kg weight category, took the 3rd place.

At the main competition of the season, which is hosted in Miami, the Georgian judoka won 5 meetings of 6. He started participation in the main draw by beating Serbian Strahinja Buncic. In the second round, he beat Polish Damian Stepien three times by Yuko. In the 1/8 final surpassed Spanish Alfonso Urquiza Solana by shido.

One shido decided the fate of quarterfinal, but in favor of Mchedlishvili’s opponent – Uzbek Sharofidin Boltaboev. In the bronze final, the Georgian beat Hungarian Gyula Pal and Azerbaijani Huseyn Rahimli by ipon-ipon.

Yesterday, Gela Kelikhashvili and Beka Vibliani, wrestlers in 66 kg weight category, also participated, but lost in the initial stage. Both Georgians lost to Israeli team’s member.

Mzia Beboshvili (52kg), member of girl’s team, started the championship by beating Ecuadorian Diana Diaz, but in 1/8 final lost to Romanian Larisa Florian.

Today, boys in 81 and 90 kg and girls in 63 and 70 kg weight categories will participate on Miami tatami. World’s current champion Beka Gviniashvili (90kg) and prize -winners of European Championship Ushangi Margiani and Levan Gugava (both 81kg) will be involved. Today, champions and prize-winners will be revealed in girls.

Preliminary stage meetings will start at 18:00 Tbilisi time.
