Giorgi Merebashvili: "Dinamo" Was and Will Always Be My Family"

Georgian football player Giorgi Merebashvili has played for “Dinamo” Tbilisi for many years. Now he plays for OFI of Greece with Giorgi Loria. Merebashvili scored goal in his debut match against “Panathinaikos”. “World Sport” contacted Giorgi Merebashvili in Greece.

- First of all, I want to congratulate you on successful start. What goals does OFI have?

- Thank you. It is good that we won the match. As for OFI, it is a good club with many legionaries. There is a good atmosphere in the team. Head coach Gennaro Gattuso is the main reason for it. He is a very good person.

As for the goals, it is a more trampoline team. For example, on Sunday a player played in “Panathinaikos” who played for OFI before. The team is not demanded for a specific result but of course, nobody refuses success. The main goal of the club is to purchase players cheaply and to send them to other good clubs.

- What can you say about “Dinamo” Tbilisi? You have played for “Dinamo” for a long time…

- I am not disappointed that “Dinamo” changed its way and dismissed me. I am disappointed because we were one big family and the club dismissed me without meeting and wishing me good luck. I was brought up by the club’s academy and played in “Dinamo” for 12 years. “Dinamo” was and always will be my family.

- What do you think about the Georgian national team?

- Everybody knows about the tough situation in the Georgian national team. There are a lot of reasons but I will name only one. I often hear criticism from fans toward players. I think everybody should make right conclusions. Our country itself is in tough situation and football cannot be at high level…

- But countries which are in tougher situation than us have better results…

- Yes, I agree with you but I have mentioned atmosphere and it is very important. I do not know what is going on in the national team. I have not played for the national team for a long time but I am always ready to play for it.

- What would you say to the Georgian fans?

- I want to thank everybody. Before departing for Greece, I had a very tough period in my career. The fans supported and cheered me up. I want to thank everybody and I will try to make them happy in the future…
