Giorgi Mamardashvili, goalkeeper of the Georgia national team, was named as the player of the match in the second round against Czech Republic in the EURO 2024.
The 23-yaer-old goalkeeper earned 11 saves which is a record at the current European Championship. Giorgi talked at the post-match press conference.
“I am satisfied because we are here and secondly, because we gained a historic point. We could have won at the last minute but it is football. It will be a tough match against Portugal but we will do our best and let’s see what happens.
The Czech Republic has very good players and I wish them good luck in the upcoming matches.
Perhaps, Saba wanted the most to score a goal. He is a good player and will score in the future. To tell the truth, I have not seen this moment. The Czech goalkeeper was in the right position. Saba did what he had to do. He just could not do technically well. Unfortunately, we could not win but we still have a chance and will do our best.
Were the disallowed and conceded goals similar? In both cases, we lost concentration. In the first case we were lucky because it was a handball. As for the second goal, you must not lose concentration when you play at such big tournament. First of all, I lost concentration and that is why we conceded the goal”, - said Mamardashvili
After two rounds the Georgia national team has 1 point and will play Portugal on June 26 in Gelsenkirchen.
