Vincenzo Montella, head coach of the Turkey national team, held a post-match press conference after beating Georgia.
The Italian coach noted that Georgia is not playing at the European Championship by accident and he is not surprised that it was difficult for his team to win.
“The fans were fantastic throughout the match. It was a match worthy of the finals. We had 22 shots on goal. We need to be more accurate as we will not always be able to afford to miss so many but I did appreciate the performance. We relaxed a bit after the VAR disallowed the second goal but that happens. I turned 50 today, so this was the best present I could have received.
Georgia is not playing at the European Championship by accident. It is physically strong, organized team that knows its strengths and weaknesses.
Many things happened for the first time this year: we won the first round at the big tournament, defeated Croatia, won in Germany after 62 years. Of course, we want to play in playoffs. We are holding the next match in 4 days and we need to concentrate on that match. Our goal is to beat Portugal and play in 1/8 final”, - said Montella.
Georgia will hold the next match against Czech Republic on June 22 in Hamburg.
